Ohhh the Barre class! I tried my first Barre class just last week with our instructor Harmony which was the first class held at our studio.
It. was. amazing.
Harmony totally kicked my butt! I burned in ways I haven’t burned for a lonnng time. The sweat, the frustration, the shake, the stretch, then the ultimate feeling of achievement and bliss! It totally rocked my world.
For those of you who don’t know what Barre is, it’s a mix of dance, yoga and Pilates moves done on the ballet barre and the mat. Its a fun, upbeat class to rockin’ music that will get your heart pumping and your body sweating.
Now, to be perfectly honest I was a HUGE skeptic of Barre before I tried it. I didn’t like the idea of it because it’s marketed as Pilates Barre and it’s not traditional Pilates. In fact, I wouldn’t truly class it as Pilates at all. It’s more intense, it uses higher reps, it’s faster paced and slightly less attention to the precision of movements.
BUT! In saying that, it’s amazing exercise! It’s a fun, all over body workout done with much less impact on your body than say, most team sports or going for a run.
The perks of Barre:
- It’s fun!
- A great all over body workout
- It’s strengthening and toning
- Helps with flexibility and lengthening muscles
- Builds cardio fitness
- Gets you sweating!
- Low impact for the joints
- It’s a bit of a giggle at our studio when we start to feel the burn
It’s not for the faint hearted or those working with limiting injuries, but for everyone else – I highly recommend you give it a try! Come and feel the burn with us Mondays 830am, you won’t regret it.
